Description from owner

Description

The Loan is a gorgeous, traditional fisherman's cottage in North-West Scotland with fantastic sea views of the Summer Isles. The cottage is on the edge of the beautiful village of Achiltibuie, 45mins from the great little highland port town of Ullapool. It sleeps up to 4 adults (plus one baby/toddler in a cot) in one double bedroom, and one twin bedroom . The cottage is suprisingly spacious - with an inviting sitting room with open fire, a cosy study, a bright and airy family living/dining room and an eat-in kitchen. The kitchen has an oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer. It has two bathrooms, a family one upstairs and shower room with loo on the ground floor.

Linens and towels are supplied along with a basic basket of essentials (tea, coffee etc.) to get your holiday off to an easy start.

We can supply a cot and highchair on request.

The house is beautifully appointed in traditional cottage style and the rooms are wood panelled lending the cottage a very warm and welcoming feel. Please note that the stairs to the first floor are steep. While the setting feels wonderfully remote, the cottage is very accessible. It is on the edge of the village, very close to the Achiltibuie stores, which stocks a good selection of basic groceries, fresh locally caught seafood and household necessities. The Loan has plenty of parking, is very sheltered and set in 1/4 acre of mature gardens which provide an ideal area for children to run about in. This cottage feels like a home and will give holiday makers a really special place from which to explore the amazing wilderness of northwest Scotland.

Achiltibuie is a lovely village and thriving community based on the Coigach peninsula. It is home to the well-renowned Summer Isles Hotel, which can be booked for dinner, the small Piping School cafe which serves tea and cakes and has amazing views over to Lewis and Harris, an Art Gallery in the hall that is open between Easter and October, and a sprinkling of gift shops. Fresh fish and prawns can be bought from local fishermen.

Ullapool, a beautiful 45min drive away, through glorious mountains and lochs, has a good selection of shops (including a good butchers, pharmacy, bookshop and a good supermarket). Ullapool also has some great places to have lunch, have a coffee or dine. There are also boat trips to see birds and sealife from the pier.

The property benefits from 'hands on' caretakers Simon and Catherine who have plenty of local knowledge and can advise you on all matters Achiltibuie. They can also help arrange babysitting.

“Beautiful, comfortable house”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2018

We thoroughly enjoyed the place. It was a very comfortable house and we felt at home immediately. It was great to come back to it after a day's excursion, or a hike in the Scottish drizzle.

“Cosy in Coigach”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2016

The Loan is a charmingly restored crofter's cottage. Fixtures, fittings, heating and amenities are all of a very high standard. Cosy wood panelling in the old part of the cottage creates a welcome base to return to after exploring the beautiful surroundings. The sunroom is a real boon. Bright and airy with big sofas and a comfortable family dining table it is an ideal place to socialise, read and enjoy family meals. The welcome pack and visit from the caretakers are lovely touches. Having holidayed for many years in this area The Loan is now on our 'must return' list. For those unfamiliar with the Coigach area it is a gem of a location for an outdoor holiday. Spectacular beaches, walks, mountains and small villages make this an ideal place for walking, running, hillwalking and cycling. Weather can be very mixed but don't let that put you off. Wrap up against the rain and get out - the sun is sure to be just around the corner. Local amenities are good with a very well stocked and friendly local store, post office, hotel, community hall making it an ideal place for couples and families alike.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the feedback. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at 'The Loan'. Do come back and visit again.
