“Beware noisy neigbours”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2016

My partner and three children have just returned from a 10 night stay at Villa Nia in Almyros just outside of Acharavi. The appeal of the quiet countryside setting just outside of Acharavi appealed very much and the close proximity to the beach was also advantageous with young children. You will definitely need a car to reach the main ships and tavernas in Acharavi or St.Spyridon but there are a couple of more traditional tavernas in walking distance. We arrived at the house which is simple enough to find and Eos travel also provide very in depth driving instructions so getting too, lost is not a huge problem. We were greeted by three very friendly Greeks which were the owners who were very welcoming and friendly and really took the time to show us around the villa and explain everything. They were not intrusive and once they knew we were happy they wished us a good holiday and left us to it. The house itself is very spacious and fairly modern with two bathrooms and plenty of room for a family. The house is set in its own grounds and is very clean and tidy. We felt the house was very nice but if I were to make some recommendations I would suggest changing the mattress in the master bedroom as it's akin to sleeping on a park bench and extremely hard. We ended up using some seat pads on top of the mattress to make it softer as 10 days on what was virtually a plank of wood would have been impossible. The house could also benefit from some sun loungers and some parasols as there is plenty of garden to relax in and catch some afternoon sun once back from the beach but upon enquire we were told that none were or would be available. This would make all the difference as although the terraces are very good with plenty of seating we felt that sun loungers in a villa would have been a basic amenity provided. All in all with some small improvements this villa would be lovely. What ruined the house for us was the unbelievable noise from the very large gathering of Greek youths every day and night at another property. We could not ascertain whether this was some sort of summer school or vacation property but the noise was each and every day from early afternoon for a few hours and then again from late evening until the early hours. I totally get we are in Greece and I have travelled to Corfu for the last 20 years but have never experienced such a situation before. The noise is screaming and shouting and chanting and loud music on occasion which went on until 2am one particular night. If you are looking for peace and quiet and a relaxing romantic evening after the kids have gone to bed then you will have to do this inside with all the doors and windows closed. I would expect this level of noise from Kavos, Ipsos or Sidari but not from a small residential countryside setting. The noise was so loud it actually masked the background noise from the Cyprotel resort up the road from the villa. This noise did ruin our evening time sitting out on a lovely terrace and I would think twice before booking again. The villa is great and good value and good for a large group but beware if you are looking for a peaceful intimate holiday setting. I will tick recommend to a friend but would point out the draw backs.

Dear Guest, Good afternoon from Eos. Thank you for your review and for choosing one of the properties we are looking after to stay on your recent holiday in Corfu. It is also greatly appreciated that you have found the time to report your experiences. Furthermore, I am troubled to hear of the issues that you have kindly highlighted, concerning noisy evenings and nights and I feel really bad, having not heard of it earlier, as we could always find a way of interrupting this inconvenience. I am also feeling embarrassed for owner's reaction, once she was asked to provide a couple of sunbeds and I am going to use this incident as an evidence, on our next discussion for contract's renewal, so that she improves all services provided by the property to the maximum. I am very sorry for your disappointment and I would like to ask sincere apologies on her behalf. I'm happy though to hear that you have finally enjoyed your stay and I'm looking forward to having you again as a guest in one of our properties either in Corfu, Mykonos, Lesvos or Cyprus, in the near future. Until then, I wish you a wonderful time and all the best. With kind regards The Eos Team
