The North Wales region

In The Snowdonia National Park, the village of Abergynolwyn is ideally situated for whatever type of holiday you want. Whatever you're into: fishing, surfing, kite boarding, sailing, mountain biking, bird watching, painting, landscape photography or horse riding, there are endless scenic places to explore.

This region of Wales is without doubt a 'hidden gem' with some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain. The Dysynni Valley is a walker's paradise with Bird Rock & Cadair Idris just a few minutes' walk away! Snowdon is only 60 minutes by car and the beautiful Coed Y Brenin forest, with miles of mountain bike & walking trails is just 30 minutes' drive.

Don't worry if you're not the active type, the flat & effortless Mawddach Trail, featured in Julia Bradbury's 'Great Railway Walks' program is accessible to everyone and takes you on a journey along one of the UK's most spectacular estuaries, brimming with wildlife.

There are miles of beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches in Tywyn, Barmouth and Aberdovey to laze upon, as well as many local attractions such as the Tal-y-llyn Narrow Gauge Railway, which steams from Tywyn up to the mystical Dolgoch Falls and on to Abergynolwyn. Just a few miles beyond the stunning Tal-y-llyn Lake is the world renowned 'Centre For Alternative Technology' or (CAT) which is a fascinating place to visit and learn. Close to CAT is The Corris Craft Centre and King Arthurs Labyrinth, another 'must visit' place.

On your doorstep are miles of stunning hill and mountain walks plus beautiful sandy beaches. Tal-y-llyn Lake, is just beautiful and only a few minutes away by car or on foot. This area is full of history dating back to pre-historic times. Just get slightly off the beaten track on the dozens of public footpaths and you will come across standing stones, stone circles, abandoned farmhouses, castles & ancient churches.

The west facing Cardigan Bay coast is just 15 Minutes away at Tywyn where there are miles of sandy beaches. Don't miss the spectacular sunsets over the bay. From early Spring through till Autumn, dolphins and porpoise can be spotted close to the shore, an amazing sight to see! It's not unusual to see them on a daily basis in pods of up to 20. Tywyn is possibly the only place on the West Coast where you can park for FREE virtually right on the beach. There is level access to the town where there are supermarkets, shops, cafes, banks, a post office, cinema, health centre, cottage hospital, several churches, leisure centre and an indoor swimming pool. Just a further 5 minutes drive is the picturesque harbour village of Aberdovey, with the famous Aberdovey Golf Course plus several good restaurants & pubs.

For watersport enthusiasts and visitors with families, uncrowded, sweeping, sandy beaches can be also be found in Barmouth to the north. Depending on the conditions, Tywyn is a focal point for surfers & kayakers. Aberdovey is a well known wind surfing & sailing centre. Jet skiers are welcome in both resorts. Fishing trips can be arranged in Barmouth Tywyn & Aberdovey all year round.

Places within just a few miles of Chapel Jerusalem, NOT TO MISS:

Aberdovey, lovely old fishing village, GOLF & SAILING haven, with many good restaurants, pubs & coffee shops.

St Cadvans Church in Tywyn dating back 1500 years with the Cadvan Stones, which are apparently the oldest known inscriptions of the Welsh language.

Dolgoch Falls, (a 15 min walk) spectacular waterfalls and woodland walk, look out for fairies and witches!

Cregennan Lake near Arthog, stunning location, with views of the Mawddach Estuary.

The Barmouth Bridge, build by Brunel. You must walk over it and enjoy the Mawddach, then explore Barmouth, with excellent beaches and the harbour. There are good shops, numerous coffee shops & pubs. The Last Inn & Davey Jones Locker are particularly good.

Cadair Idris & Llyn Cau, Bird Rock and Castle Y Bere are close enough to walk. Many walkers agree that Cadair Idris is quieter and more appealing than Snowdon.

The Bearded Lake above Aberdovey. Mystical place of legends, with amazing views of the Dovey Estuary.

The Dysynni River & reed beds. Just a short walk from the Chapel. A wild life haven for geese, ducks and herons. Fishing with a permit.

Bird Rock. A 15 min walk away. 500 years ago the sea came up to the rock, but Cormorants still breed here. Also, look out for the ruined Iron Age fort near the top of Bird Rock.

"Wonderful Capel Jerusalem"

We celebrated my sister 70th Birthday here, and everything was just as it looks in the photos Excellent accommodation and superb party venue. Everything was so easy we loved it all. We had originally booked for 12 but in the end only 9 were able to come. In The chapel there are 4 bedrooms 3 double and 1 with 2 bunk beds in. Great beds and very comfortable. We felt that this sleeps 10 really well, if we had 12 we would have had to use the lounge area for sleeping - which would not have worked in our circumstances. If you rent the whole place with the vestry I am sure it would be wonderful. We loved the area and everyone was very friendly. The pub at the end of the road, does good food, not 5 star, but we all enjoyed it very much.
