“Excellent property in the heart of Italy which offers amazing value for money” Having rented on line for the past 10 years we have learned that not all property descriptions are what they seem and some photographs can be taken from very flattering angles. Therefore we always arrive at our holiday home with fingers crossed that the hours of internet research have paid off. La Fiorella most certainly did. The photos on the wbesite do not do it full justice. It is an absolute gem right in the very centre of Italy. The spacious accomodation is set on the first floor directly above the permanent home of the hosts. Access is at the side of the property up a flight of stairs. These may not be suitable for very small children but our 3 year old had no difficulty. The hosts Johanne and Graham are very helpful but unobtrusive. The apartment is clean and tastefully decorated. It is very well appointed for a holiday let and had everything that a family needed. The pool and views are amazing. It is a great base for exploring the heart of Italy. We had day trips to Assisi, Siena, Orvieto, Montepulciano and Cortona all of which are around 1-1.25hrs away by car. The closest village of Piegaro is not particularly well serviced or interesting. However within 20 minutes drive there are some lovely hilltop villages and towns which had some great little restaurants and play parks for the kids. Less than 10 minutes drive away is the town of Tavernelle which has all the amenities you would require. It is also blessed with a very nice waterpark, which whilst not being as large or exciting as those found on the Costas benefited from only small queues and we did not leave feeling like we had been mugged. We went on this holiday with 3 children of 9, 6 and 3. La Fiorella and the location managed to strike the right balance of relaxing by the pool, great Italian food, trips to the beach at the lake and plaparks for the kids whilst allowing mum and dad to visit some wonderful sights and see some culture. It may not suit families with older tenagers but I can not recommend the apartment or area highly enough. We loved it so much we have been twice. Something we have never done before. If you do decide to go try and coincide your visit with the festival at Citta del Pieve. A truly amazing historical pageant which entranced the whole family. I doubt there are any better properties in this region of Italy that offer the same level of accomodation at these rental prices. An absolute gem.
We loved this house. Everything was just as we wanted it. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were renovated and modern and clean. The pool was exactly what we needed for swimming at the end of a day's sightseeing in the area and for days off. The house is so big that there are plenty of quiet corners, inside and out. The sunset views were magnificent across the olive groves. The kitchen was well equipped and spotless like the rest of the house. The pizza oven was excellent, not only for pizzas but for roasting legs of lamb and chickens. The peace and serenity were wonderful. In short, we loved it and would happily book again. Also Johanna, the owner's agent, was really helpful in telling us of local places to visit and eat. If you're looking for tourist central this place is not for you, but if you want to explore Italy away from the tourist traps, this is an excellent base. …
Villa L'Antica Vetreria
A Magical, One-of-a-Kind Place
I don't know if I am a poetic enough writer to do justice writing about this property. Not only is there beauty to the eye in the unique, historical building, in the gorgeous views, and in the sweet village, there is also beauty for the soul in all of these elements. An experience like this is my favorite way to travel: some days my family took day trips to local sites and played tourist; other days we hung around the village, being a part of everyday community life. For the owners of this property, Colleen and Tom, this endeavor is so much more than a business; it is a passion of the heart that is evident in every detail, large and small. They are completely accessible by email, phone, or in person to share their joy and knowledge of the region, the people, and each and every logistical question you can throw their way. I traveled here with my husband and 6-year-old son, and we all found something to enjoy, and we all wished we could stay much, much longer than we were able. I can't imagine not visiting here again. …
il Forno L'Antica Vetreria
Our week long stay at il Forno L'Antica Vetreria was perfect! Our hosts, Colleen and Tom, made sure we were able to enjoy Piegaro, as well as many magnificent, nearby towns. We met two other couples (from college days) and we enjoyed touring, shopping, dining, laughing and feeling "treated." The website has many photos of the town and surrounding areas of interest. One night, after dinner, we walked the quiet streets of Piegaro back to our suite and I felt as if I were in a movie set. The weather, vistas and history make this Italian getaway more than memorable. …
il Nido L'Antica Vetreria
Perfect in every way.
Wonderful accommodation in a working village with REAL Italians and few tourists. A great place to get the feel of the true Umbria away from the tourist spots. Lovely hill top villages to explore when you have had enough of lazing in/by the pool admiring the gorgeous view. No need to cook either as there are a couple of great places to eat in the village. The meat from the village butcher may just tempt you to barbeque on the terrace though as it is superb quality. Colleen and Tom couldn't be kinder and are always around in an unobtrusive way to help with queries. You won't go wrong staying with them! …
PRINCESS Apartment&Rooms- Castle of Gaiche
Idyllic hilltop location
This property is a 2 bedroom apartment within the beautifully refurbished 11th Century castle of Gaiche, The castle is accessed by driving 1.6km up a fairly steep winding road. The location is quiet and remote with great views across the valleys and towards Perugia . There is a pool area slightly away from the castle which would keep the garden area quiet in busier times. This apartment is perfect for 2-4 persons requiring a restful vacation with options for visiting Unbria and Southern Tuscany. It is very well equipped and decorated, and furnished in a comfortable, stylish manner, immediately feeling like home.
This is a great location for visiting a large number of pretty hilltop towns. We were there 11 nights and never ran out of options for days out visiting Assissi, Perugia, Gubbio, Siena and even Florence (by train from Chiusi). A car is, however, essential.
Highly recommended for a cofortable, relaxing and atmospheric vacation in abeautiful part of Italy. …
A little piece of paradise
Once you have braved the meandering bends of the last piece of the route and navigated the white gravel roads leading up to La Fiorella - Johanne's directions are excellent -, a true little jewel reveals itself to you. Johanne and Graham have created a wonderful retreat for themselves and their guests, be they friends, family or travellers on holiday.
The house itself is charming, the grounds are neatly kept, the swimming-pool is lovely, overlooking the gently curved hills of the Umbrian countryside. There are many good things you could say about La Fiorella, we would like to mention just a few.
The host. Friendly, funny, helpful. Never intrusive, but always pleased to help with Information, good tips about places to visit, markets, restaurants and ongoing festivals. We didn't manage to visit the local food-festival, so supposedly we'll have to return to check this off our list some time in the future.
The kitchen. We have been booking apartments for our holiday stays for several years now, and to be honest have never been disappointed so far. But this kitchen is something of a totally different standard we have never experienced in a rented apartment before. Pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, glasses, stoneware, kitchen-towels, oven-gloves, even an apron.
The places you can visit. La Fiorella is a great point from which to explore Umbria or even Tuscany. As it was our second stay to Umbria, we already knew some of the places recommended in the visitors' folder and could choose to explore some of those which we hadn't been to so far. The lovely little hilltop hamlets and towns of Umbria were never as crowded as the respective places in Tuscany, while still offering some amazing cultural treasures, breathtaking views and culinary highlighs for vegetarian and of course also and especially non-vegetrarian tastes.
La Fiorella: Five shining, twinkling stars, as simple as that. …
