“Great value weekend retreat” We arrived on Friday and were greeted by the owners, Wendy and Andrew who showed us round and gave us some advice on places to go. And they'd baked chocolate brownies which was a nice touch. And fresh flowers too. They'd also emailed prior to us setting off to give directions and to ask what kind of milk we wanted. Fire was there ready to be lit and it REALLY heats the place up. There's a small TV with built-in DVD player and a decent choice of DVDs too. We went for a weekend of walking and there was a great selection of books and maps in the property with lots of walks in them. There's also a slow cooker so handy for cooking your food while out walking. Only slight gripe was that there wasn't a potato masher or colander (not that we could find anyway). It has a good shower and quite a big bath too. Very close to the town centre and a steep walk downhill. The 2 nights we went into the town centre we got taxis back and they only cost £2.80 (or £3.86 if you bump into a stranger in town who's going kinda the same way, but he kindly gives you £2.80 anyway making the cost only £1.06). If you like folk music (or just music in general) I highly recommend the Labour club on a Friday and the last Sunday of the month, where they have music sessions. Just take your instrument and join in. Apparently the folk train (Google it!) also comes to Glossop once a month and it's worth going to the Labour club for that too, whenever it is. Anyway, the Cowshed comes highly recommended. I nearly booked a place just outside Glossop but so glad I didn't and decided to actually stay in the town because you're right on the edge of the countryside anyway. Thanks again to Wendy and Andrew, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

“Excellent Character Cottage” Milk Maid's Cottage is a delightful character cottage in Kniveton, The location is ideal for walking in the Peak District and the local area, which was the aim of our weekend break. Liam, the owner was welcoming and most helpful. We found the cottage to be very clean and comfortable, with a large dining kitchen (all amenities provided) and a cosy spacious lounge with two 2-seater sofas and a separate armchair. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one double and one with twin beds, and a well equipped bathroom with bath and overhead shower. Copious hot water was available for the whole of our stay. So important after a hard days walking. This was undoubtedly the best accommodation we have enjoyed whilst holidaying in the UK. Our stay was fairly early into the period after the easing of coronavirus restrictions for self catering properties. Liam had every angle covered as regards protocols in place at the cottage, and we were reassured by his exact and careful preparations for our holiday. Our first meal out after the lockdown was enjoyed at The Red Lion in Kniveton. We booked in advance and we were pleased by how effectively the pub operated to conform with the government guidelines. A full menu was on offer, and our food and the service was excellent. It was so good to be back in the "pub", always an important part of our holiday. Many thanks to Hannah, Kev and Gav. A great weekend proving that a staycation can be best !! Andrew and Belinda

“Fabulous house for big groups/families” We were a groupie of 17 adults and a one year old. We were there for my 60 th birthday, we all had an amazing time, the house was spotlessly clean, each and every one of our group could not find any fault. We also booked the hot tub at last minute, so glad we had, it was great, some one was always in it. The bedrooms were all lovely and again spotless. We hope to be back.

“Great Location” We spent almost 6 weeks at Church View and loved every minute. The house is easily big enough to accommodate a family of 4, plus extended family for Christmas Day, parking is not an issue and the property was always warm. The location is second to none, the area is safe, with easy access to Chesterfield town centre (25min walk) and the Peak District. Have already booked another 6 week stay next year.

“Wonderful stay” Just stayed for 3 nights at this lovely place over the bank holiday. The accommodation was well appointed with corner bath and king sized bed. So clean as well. It was the setting though that exceeded all expectations. Completely private but owners always on hand and very helpful. The views were spectacular and the birds were amazing. We went for great walks of which there were many. One has to say that, unusually for us,the weather was such a bonus with blue skies and heat. Can't wait to return

Derbyshire holidays

This huge rolling area in the East Midlands is a truly beautiful example of the English rural countryside, where you’ll find a wide variety of plant and animal life, and different terrains. It’s the perfect place for hikers and those who love to explore the great outdoors. Book a holiday rental in the Peak District, Derbyshire and start experiencing nature.

About Peak District, Derbyshire

Phenomenally picturesque, the Peak District is not named for its mountains (as it doesn't have any), but for an ancient tribe that was believed to have resided in the area.

The landscape can be considered to split into two geologically contrasting areas; there's the White Peak with its limestone dales, famed for its rare flora, including orchids and Jacob's Ladder; and the Dark Peak, where the hills are higher and there's lots of heather, bogs and moorland.

What to Do

Kids will love Gulliver's Kingdom, a charming little theme park in amazing surroundings.

Top Peak District, Derbyshire Travel Tips

Be aware of your abilities when hiking and use common sense. Don't go alone and make sure someone knows what route you're taking. Whilst there are several excellent Mountain Rescue Teams if you do get into real difficulties, try to take every measure to stay safe out there and not need them!

For an amazingly beautiful hiking holiday in a vast and picturesque region, be sure to book your next holiday rental in the Peak District, Derbyshire.

Charming 2 bedroom character cottage
Fabulous Cottage with Loving Finishing Touches, A Gem!

Gorgeous cottage, lovingly upgraded and decorated to an exceptional standard, we were really blown away with the cleanliness and attention to detail this lovely cottage has. A big kitchen diner with all the amenities, instant and easy heating controls and a cosy lounge with wood burner and logs provided (do take fire lighters though). The bedrooms are large with lovely décor and comfortable beds. The shower room is great with a large walk in shower and parking was easy on the street outside. Melbourne itself is really cute with lots of independent shops and we enjoyed a spa day at The Breedon Priory which we'd highly recommend. We loved everything about our stay and will be making it an annual event. Can't recommend highly enough!see more

Really lovely break away to this little gem. We booked just before Christmas and we really did not know what to expect. We were greeted instantly and welcomed into the cottage by the owner and the cutest dog called Thistle. Immediately we felt at home and having the hot tub was an added bonus. What stunning views as well. We sat out in the evening and it was amazing. The nice little touches in the cottage with the butter, eggs, milk, tea and coffee just added that extra something to the visit. I loved all the duck touches as well and we even woke up to the quacks. We had a lovely weekend, relaxing, chilling and walking with the dog. Thank you for being the perfect hosts in your wonderful cottage.see more

This place is an amazing find. Steve is an excellent host and his place is nothing short of perfect: near the NW part of the Peak District, easy reach to shops and restaurants, quiet comfortable and to top it all, you can enjoy Steve's great place with a swimming pool and a snooker table! I'll be going back.see more

The Old Coach House
Old Coach House, Aldwark, Matlock

A lovely cottage with plenty of amenities within. Nigel, the host was always available for any issues, not that we had any. He also accommodated our three giant breed dogs for that we are incredibly grateful.Beautiful garden and courtyard. We hope to revisit sometime soon. The only downside is that there is nothing within walking distance if that is what you are after, having said that, being surrounded by fields and animals more than makes up for that.see more
Hollywell Lodge
Excellent holiday let

Hollywell Lodge is a well presented and fully fitted holiday let for a quiet, peaceful break in the Derbyshire Dales. The accommodation has everything required to make your break run smoothly. The furnishing are high spec, the kitchen well equipped and there is peaceful outside space to relax and enjoy the views. Robert was helpful but not intrusive, giving you the space to relax. He ensured everything was in place for our arrival. Great for our dog, who particularly enjoyed racing around the paddock. The location great to explore or just to sit and enjoy the views Highly recommended.see more
