“Great place in a brilliant location would return tomorrow” We just loved this former Merchants House, which was homely and offered every facility you could want. It was a great place to return to after walking around Amsterdam all day. The kitchen is has every appliance, including a great coffee machine. The bathroom is luxurious. The beds very comfortable and the first floor lounge a great space to sit and read or look out on the constant changing character of the adjoining canal.
The location is absolutely brilliant being only a couple of hundred m from the Westerkek with its wonderful carillon. Do climb the tower. All the major Museums and galleries are within easy walking distance and it was a constant joy to walk along and cross-cross the canals, taking extreme care to lookout for the bikes! It appears chaotic but all seems to work, as the bikers are not your Lycra clad boy racers, but anyone from 8 to 80 on sensible bikes riding at sensible speeds!!
Most of the Museums have had major refurbishments in recent years and cater brilliantly for children. The Amsterdam Museum, Maritime Museum, and Nemo, and Van Gough Museum were outstanding in this respect. There were local supermarkets which were great for self-catering, and a very good ice-cream shop for the after diner walk and desert. As you can gather we cannot recommend the house, its location or Amsterdam more highly.
“View Amsterdam from a better perspective!” I'm not too sure where to start, and I also don't want to give to much away as I don't want to give too much of this jewel of a place to stay in Amsterdam away.
I have been to Amsterdam a few times now, and by far this was definitely the best experience I have had over there, the owner of the apartment is VERY friendly and helped us with any problems we had, being with the apartment or just help in general with the locals (I can't speak the language).
Plenty of space, everything is the highest quality, and more freedom than you would usually get in an apartment or hotel in Amsterdam.
Try it for yourself, I promise you won't be disappointed.
