“Magical, memorable holiday!” First and foremost, the lovely farmhouse far exceeded our expectations! Words cannot do justice to just how pretty this property is; this is a 150 year old farmhouse that still retains the charm and character from the 1800s while being modernized enough to meet the needs of a 21st century family. Stephanie, the owner, could not have been more helpful to any question that we had. She accommodated us completely and made our stay in Abcoude & all of the Netherlands simply perfect. The grounds and the setting of this picture-perfect home are part & parcel of what makes this home so special. Nestled back on the property, and set amid gorgeous gardens, one really feels like they have stepped back in time. The blooms of the shrubs, flowers and trees was magnificent! We thoroughly enjoyed sitting out back on the patio soaking in the loveliness of this home. We were even treated to a bee hive with real live bees as the went about their business of pollination! And all along this area including next door were sheep, cows, etc. You would think we had never seen a sheep we were so in love with these animals! The house itself was neat, clean and perfectly prepared for us. There are 2 bedrooms (each with 2 twin beds) plus more space for sleeping in the upstairs which we did not need. Just nice for those who are looking for that amount of sleeping quarters. A nice big farmhouse kitchen, we didn't really cook but you certainly could. Each bedroom has a full bath, plus a 1/2 bath near the entry way that houses a washer & dryer. We didn't have need to do laundry but nice to know it's there! Abcoude is a darling little town just outside of Amsterdam. It has some shopping (enough to meet the needs of most vacationers) and a train (metro) station. This was convenient in getting us into Amsterdam. The trains are modern, clean and an easy way to get into the city. Stephanie leaves a nice binder with information on what's what in the house as well as info on the area shopping, dining, etc. Abcoude is also central to most other places in the Netherlands. For the 5 days we were there, we got into Amsterdam, Haarlem, Kinderdyjk, Rotterdam, Utrecht & even Belgium (oh that Belgian chocolate!) I cannot recommend this home to anyone looking for a unique option for a nice holiday in the Netherlands!! Thank you, Stephanie!!
