“A lovely base for a lovely holiday” Villa Firdaus is a lovely property, set in pretty gardens overlooking Funchal. It is spacious, and extremely well fitted out. The kitchen is huge, with plenty of working space for several people to be operating at the same time. Our adult daughter holidayed with us, and we could soon put a substantial meal together. There is a supermarket quite close by, and plenty of shopping opportunities in Funchal, particularly the market, which is a must. There are, of course, plenty of excellent eating places in and around Funchal if cooking is not a holiday must. The property manager lives in the basement area (completely detached) and is a wonderful source of information and suggestions for absolutely anything to do with/in Madeira, and especially for restaurants. We stayed in Villa Firdaus for the Christmas/New Year holiday. Compared to Britain the weather was extremely good - though it started a bit on the cold side, with some rain, it gradually got better and better, until we were having lovely sunny, and very warm days. Our one disappointment was that the property was rather cold in the evenings - but as a compensation most mornings found us having breakfast on the terrace. Christmas morning - smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and champagne - just like home - but sitting in sunshine!
