Limassol is Cyprus’ second-largest town, and it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular destination, with its cosmopolitan vibe, sandy beaches and lively nightlife.
There’s so much to see and do here, from the historic old town and port to the markets and shops selling local produce.
About Limassol

It’s easy to get to Limassol, with flights to nearby Paphos and Larnaca airports. Both are about a 40-minute drive from Limassol town centre.
Once you’re here, you’ll find that walking is the best way to explore the town, with the majority of attractions within easy walking distance, including the Marina, the Old Town and the Castle, as well as the Archaeological Museum.
Limassol has a rich history, and if you want to explore more of the area, you can rent a car, moped or bike – just remember that road safety is a little more relaxed here than what you may be used to!
What to do
On sunny days (Limassol has plenty of them!), a stroll around the Marina and Old Port is a great way to spend an afternoon, before heading for the Old Town and Limassol Castle. This 14th-century castle was once used as a colonial prison by the British. Head for the rooftop terrace to enjoy some of the most spectacular views over the Harbor. On your way back through the Old Town, stop off for some shopping at Anexartisias Street.
A little further afield, the Cyprus Wine Museum, just outside the town centre, is a great place to find out about the region’s winemaking history.
When the sun goes down, Saripolou Square in the Old Town buzzes with activity. You’ll find plenty of vibrant cafes, bars and restaurants, or check out a buzukia, a traditional tavern playing live music.

Foodies will find plenty to satisfy their appetites in Limassol – the local fish restaurants are renowned for their fresh seafood mezes and the Municipal Market is the place to shop for foodie souvenirs, Cypriot sweets or supplies to take back to your Holiday Lettings villa.
Other things worth shopping for here include Lefkara Lace and locally-sourced sea sponges, found in many stores and at the market.
Most stores here are open Monday-Friday from 9am-1pm and again from 3pm-7pm, with smaller stores closed on Wednesday afternoons. Weekend opening hours can vary too.
