“Well beyond expectations .......” Firstly let's start with the villa.... Absolutley lovely place. Very stylish in a understated way. A lot of thought has gone into the easy casual style. If you are looking for polished chrome and lots of glass then look away. Locally sourced firniture, polished floors and cool prints on the walls. Ceiling fans everywhere (you'll need those). The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The master bedroom has high ceilings and a very cool walk in shower. The four poster bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever found at a hoiday rental. All the beds have Mosquito nets for the paranoid but we saw two mozzies during our stay. Every evening the rooms are sprayed 30 mins before you retire. Bug fanatics relax, we saw only one and it was very friendly. All the bedroom have powerful air con. Outside is a huge garden that rolls down to the beach. Palm trees, well tended lawns and beautiful tropical plants everywhere. Near the house is a large covered patio area (more ceiling fans). Large blinds can be rolled down to protect you from the occassional tropical rain shower. It is a lovely place to enjoy the sound of the waves whilst enjoying a glass of wine. At the other end of the garden is a covered patio for dining. We enjoyed our breakfast there every morning, with the waves of the Indian Ocean crashing in the background. The pool is excellent and one of the largest we have ever found at a vacation rental. The temperature was perfect and it is a lovely place to cool off in the afternoon heat. It was also the cleanest ...... we never saw a single thing in the crystal clear waters . It is long enough for you to take your daily 100 length exercise but shallow enough for children to splash about. The house sits on a beautiful sandy beach. It's lovely. We saw only a handful of people all week. Galle Forte is just a short tuk-tuk ride away. 15 mins away are the attractions of Hikaduwa and the beautiful beaches, bars and restaurants of Unawatuna are 20 mins away. The house comes with a Tuk-tuk and driver, all part of the deal. 2 minutes away is the Jetwing Lighthouse hotel. the views out over the ocean are stunning and it is a lovely place to enjoy a drink or a meal. In Galle Forte there are restaurants and bars to suit all budgets from cheap but excellent to the stylish. We highly recommend the Deco44 Hotel on lighthouse street. Just the house alone would make your vacation amazing, however what makes your stay really really special are the staff. Pushpa, Susantha and Suranga are three of the loveliest, most helpful and welcoming people we have ever met. It was a delight to meet them all. There is nothing that is too much trouble. Do these lovely people ever stop smiling? Susantha the house manager will do anything for you. He is your concierge, driver and all round good guy. He is just a great guy. Nothing is too much trouble, just ask. Pushpa is a lovely lady who is always smiling and laughing. Her cooking is amazing. Ask for the Prawn curry. Breakfast everyday was simply superb. We ate out a few evenings but the best meals we had were at the villa. if we had a big enough suitcase we would have taken Pushpa home with us. What a lovely lady. Suranga is a very pleasant young man who looks after you from 6pm to 8am every night. Always smiling and ever helpful. I tried several times to return a cup or a glass to the kitchen and never made it before Suranga would sprint across the lawn to intercept me. This is a lovely place to stay but it's the staff that make it truly magical. If you are lucky enough to stay here please remember that these amazing hard working lovely people are there to provide a service, they are NOT servants so treat them with the respect and kindness they deserve and You will be richly rewarded. Please and thank you are free. If not I will find you! In summary..... we have travelled all over the world and stayed in many many vacation rentals and hotels. Villa Golden is just one of the best places we have ever stayed. We'll be back .... again and again.
