“A perfect getaway from our crazy world” This was our second visit to Rowan Cottage and even more deeply enjoyable than our previous visit in 2011. It is a marvellous location for chilling out and exploring south Loch Ness-side. It has everything we need for a self-catering holiday - good facilities for cooking, for washing and drying, and for watching our Dvds - but also a sense of remoteness so we can get away from the usual rat-race of urban living. There is an excellent village shop and cafe a couple of miles away in Foyers, and a large range of facilities (supermarkets, petrol station, restaurants) in Fort augustus, 16 miles to the south (but a very pleasant 16 miles as the usually quiet road winds its way through and over hills south of Loch Ness). Foyers and Fort augustus are also great places to view the Loch. The old Foyers Pier is accessible by road and gives good views of the middle part of the Loch and especially Foyers Bay, where boats travelling along the Loch often anchor for a while. Fort augustus is even better with Caledonian Canal providing both a small and well-used harbour, and a grand spectacle as boats travelling beyond Loch Ness travel up and down the staircase of locks that is the village centre. This time we were blessed with warm sunny weather - indeed at times too hot. But that weather added to the sense of relaxation in that we did not have to worry about heating or warm clothes, and could enjoy the Cottage's wonderful veranda. This has an indoor and outdoor section so you can choose where best suits you to sit at any time - and then read or sleep or just watch the marvellous view across the woods to the mountains north of the Loch. The great weather meant that we could sit on the veranda and watch the sunset (it faces west) whilst drinking something suitably Scottish. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Rowan Cottage and are already thinking on opportunities to visit again. We can strongly recommend it as place to escape and relax.

“Great cottage, great location” If you're looking for a well presented, comfy and relaxing place to stay whilst touring Cork and the surrounding areas, look no further. The exterior of the cottage could use a little TLC but it certainly doesn't do the inside of the property any justice. The accommodation is very comfortable and was excellent value for money. All mod cons are provided and the place was very tastefully decorated and spotlessly presented. The owner also has two gorgeous dogs who gave us a lovely warm welcome on arrival! The cottage is located 15 minutes from the bustling town of Midleton and is a brief half hour from Cork City itself. So you are ideally located for touring around but a car is most definitely essential. Fota Wildlife Park is well worth a visit and is only 20 mins drive from the cottage. One word of warning, we relied on our sat nav to help us find the house and ended up coming in the back way to the property through a lot of dodgy country roads. We really should have used the owners far more sensible directions!! :) Highly recommend and would gladly stay there again.

“Casteleau Road, Llantrisant, self catering accommodation, manager: Rita Maynard” We just arrived back from this wonderful short break. The holiday was such a lovely experience as well as a well deserved break. Staying with Rita in her lodges made the holiday even more special. The farm the lodges are on is beautiful and waking up to the cows in the morning and the pony next to our lodge as well as the wonderful sound of the peaceful Welsh country side was great. Even though the weather was not great there is so much to do in the surrounding area that it didn't stop us having a fun packed holiday. Even falling asleep to the hypnotic sound of the rain falling on our little lodge at night was lovely. Her accommodation is so cosy, clean and quirky and I loved every last minute of staying there. Rita herself is also so kind and helpful and it felt comforting to know should I have had any problems, which we didn't I know she would have been on hand to help resolve them. Best bit of the holiday was my 10 year old daughter waking up in the morning and putting her wellies on and walking to the farmers house next door to collect some eggs for us and then having fresh scrambled eggs every morning. Will definitely be looking to re book here. Thank you Rita. From Laura and Eva

“Superb break” We work 6-day/80-hour weeks and this was our first break this year. We didn't know in detail exactly what an 'eco-lodge' was so made the booking with a little trepidation. However, the owners are really lovely, down-to-earth people and made us very welcome and explained everything. Although we live and work in N. Wales we used to live in Dorset and still have friends there, consequently we were torn between taking a well-earned rest but also wanting to travel around and meet friends. In the end we got the balance right which comprised of 'chilling' in the morning and out in the afternoon. The lodge is in a great location and every day I walked through the back gate and got to know Wareham Forest better each day. The visiting wildlife was also wonderful. I would highly recommend Sika Lodge to anyone wanting a relaxing break.

“Clean and modern lodge in an excellent location.” The lodge was small but perfect for our needs, it was clean and tidy with modern facilities. A good base from which to explore the area. The decking area offered views across to the river in a secluded part of the site. The highlight of the stay was the regular visits from the red squirrels on site. Additional surprise was the teabags, coffee, cleaning items and other basic day to day items provided, that mean you don't have to bring / purchase these at extra cost and using space in the car!!.

“Fantastic Log Cabin set in beautiful countryside!” We absolutely loved this log cabin, the cabin itself was great with everything you would need, fridge freezer, microwave, oven and TV (not that you need the TV with such lovely views!). The cabin was cosy and comfortable with a lovely traditional feel to it! The cabin is set in a beautiful location in the trees overlooking the Loch, it is so quiet and peaceful. Shops are a long way off so you need to make sure you have what you need but that was fine with us as it just confirmed the remoteness that you want with a log cabin. I can't think of any faults, couldn't have asked for a better holiday! If you are staying here then I'd suggest a trip to Chanonray Point near Inverness to see the wild dolphins!

“Amazing” This was a very clean lodge with everything you need. The hot tub was one of the best we have had in all the year we have stayed at tattershall country park, very powerful jets. The wifi and sky tv was ideal for teenagers and adults. I would definately book again and recommend to friends and family.
