Swallow Barn
Good family base for an outdoorsy family vacation

My family and I (plus guests) stayed at Swallow Barn for 5 weeks for an extended summer vacation. The barn conversion has significant character and set in a stunning location with magnificent views from Morcambe bay to the Lake District. The accommodation is decent though slightly jaded (some new matrasses etc would be a suggestion), with a well equipped kitchen and pleasant upstairs living and dining area. The location is both a plus and a minus, being remote and therefore inaccessible without a car, and a reasonable distance from the nearest shops etc. However access to the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Motorway (M6) and mainline train (Oxenholme) is easy generating a huge range of potential activities. The barn is on an exposed scarp helping to generate the great view but meaning that the location feels the full force of any bad weather, but overall the location is a big plus.see more
