In the heart of the Lombardy region of Italy, the picturesque Lake Como lies at the base of the Rhetian Alps. Along the shores of Lake Como, in both directions from the peninsula at its centre, there are quaint villages where fisherman haul in their catches and cats bask in the sun. One of the most popular and frequently visited destinations around the lake is the village of Como.

Stroll the colourful market areas, watch the bustling activity of the port, and sample the legendary food and wine of Lombardy at the warm-hearted traditional restaurants here. While you're staying in Como, be sure to explore the churches, historic castles and country estates of the entire lake area. Visit the beautiful restored estates in the nearby towns of Varenna, Lecca, and Bellagio City. Some of these castles and country estates have been standing since the 14th century. And of course, enjoy the lake itself. There are plenty of charter tours that can take you out from the shores of Como to Isola Comacina, the lake's only island.

  • Visit the Silk Museum: Silk was once a very important commodity in Como. See the exhibits here documenting the history of this coveted fabric.
  • Take an Italian cooking class: Once you've sampled the culinary treasures of the Lombardy region in a local restaurant, you may want to take a course and learn how to reproduce these traditional flavours on your own.
  • Play on the lake: Rent a boat and glide out on the water. Go windsurfing, swim, or just relax on the tranquil beaches.

The village of Como, like most of Lombardy and the Lake Como area, is breathtakingly beautiful during every season of the year. In the winter the Alps are covered in snow and in the summer the orchards and vineyards come to life and the mountain hills bloom with wildflowers. Amazing flat in Como center
Wonderful Apartment

We loved this apartment. The location is absolutely perfect, right in the heart of the tourist area and immediately opposite a wonderful cafe where we started every day with a coffee and a pastry (and ended by buying their fresh pasta and breads for dinner). It's a quick walk to the ferry as well as to the train stations for nice day trips. The apartment itself is immaculate, newly renovated throughout and all the rooms are large and airy. The view from the kitchen in particular is fantastic. The photos of the apartment don't do it justice. There were reviews talking about the lack of air conditioning. We stayed in April with 23c (75f) temperatures and certainly the temperature was completely comfortable throughout the apartment. We obviously can't comment about the height of summer though. There's no denying that there's 72 steps to the apartment but that never felt like a problem, even carrying a Pram up and down each day. We probably could have left it at the bottom or on the terrace area half way up if we'd wanted to. The only issue we had was with the wifi being intermittent. When we eventually flagged this up to Vladimiro he was quick to respond so I'm inclined to think this was just a one-off. Vladimiro was lovely, meeting us to show us around. They also made it really lovely for our toddler and infant, setting up a cute bed and cot for our little ones, as well as getting out the baby bath tub. … see more

We had 1 week and had a great time the apartment is close to town 10 minute walk and much bigger then we thought it would be, plenty of room for a family of four. Thoroughly recommend the house in the woods (just be aware of the roads)

The first thing to highlight is the amazing views over Como which repeatedly absorbs the attention. The seated decking area has just this fantastic backdrop. The house is chic with designer bathrooms, the rooms are tastefully furnished with high-quality wall prints. To manage your expectations the caution would be that once you have arrived by car you leave it parked in the garden drive until it's time to leave. Instead, use the local funicular railway. For downward journeys, there is a halfway stop which means you walk down to it (it does mean skirting around the ticket barrier and purchasing a ticket at the bottom). You are then near to the heart of Como and its a shortish walk to the Ferry terminal. On return, you go to the top station and then walk down to the house. There is really only one way to drive to the house and that is from Como on the Via per Brunate and the Via per Como. Even then turning around the sharp 180 degree bends can be challenging to the non-local, and the roads can narrow (so the bigger your car the more challenging it becomes) (I am glad we did not fall for the Avis rouse of boot space vs luggage upgrade ploy). The final roads to the house can be a bit confusing. It transpires that Sonia the owner will often arrange to meet guests in Brunate so they can follow her to the house. If you see a feasible route from Cassano on the SP37 DON’T TAKE IT. At some points the road narrows (between thick walls) to such an extent that you have to take your wing mirrors in (the bigger the car the narrower the width). Wonderful condo with excellent location

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful apartment while visiting Lake Como from the US. We were greeted promptly at the time promised to pick up the keys and communication with the owner was very easy. The property is exactly as pictured and was super clean upon arrival. The location is fabulous and we were able to walk to the center of Como in minutes, with restaurants and the port right there. We loved the fact there was a kitchen supplied with everything we needed to make a home-cooked Italian dinner one night, which was a great memory for us.
