“Lovely cottage in great location” We spent a lovely week at the gite, unfortunately the weather wasn't so lovely but this made us get out more to explore the area. The gite was spotlessly clean on our arrival, and Catherine the owner was there to greet us. The whole property is beautifully and tastefully decorated, with lovely antique French furniture in the bedrooms. The open plan downstairs area was very spacious, and the kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need. A visit to the Roman amphitheatre at Saintes is a must, also the aquarium at La Rochelle. The beaches near St Palais sur Mer are excellent, especially the walk through the sand dunes to get there. (Avoid the town if you don't like tourist resorts though!). Unfortunately we didn't get to use the pool much due to the weather, but it's a lovely pool. We went for a walk around Crazannes every evening after dinner, it's a beautiful little village. Only downside is the wifi was quite weak so it was difficult to plan walks, places to visit and check the weather forecast (we normally do this using the internet once we get somewhere and plan our days accordingly), so maybe a few maps or books about the local area would be a good idea (there were however plenty of leaflets for attractions). But overall a lovely holiday in a great house and location, we didn't want to leave!

“Absolute Bliss” Back again, last here in 2013. We traveled with our 7 year old son and another couple. While the weather was disappointing Chez Chavlier was not. A great base to head for for day trips. We went to a near by Le Chateux des Enigmes in Pons, a theme park plunging you into a world of pirates for 3 hours of fun. Our son loved it,we had a great time too. Another day we drove to Les Grottes de Matata, beautiful caves with a deep history with a cave museum with a fab crepe restaurant with views over the gironde estuary in Meschers -sur-Gironde. Another day trip to Talmont-sur-Gironde, which is officially listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. So on the days that we could not use the pool there was lots to do. We also headed into Cognac and toured Chateaux de Cognac - Baron Otard. A great tour and a Chateaux with very interesting history. We enjoyed again our time here, great food, wine and great company in our friends that came with us. I highly recommend Chez Chavlier, The photos do not do this house justice, the pool is fab. We lit the fire every night, glass of wine in hand, a truly relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting with all the comforts of home.
