“A lovely comfortable property with welcoming friendly hosts” Despite the weather (which Alex and Alison couldn't organise for us!) we had a lovely stay here. The gite was comfortable and had everything you could need. Our two young boys (6/3) loved the bedrooms, especially the top room with its trapdoor! The area is beautiful and the Dordogne river and surrounding area is within easy reach. The gite is on a very quiet lane and great for evening walks. The pool was great whatever the weather and the hot tub a sure fire winner. Alex and Alison were perfect hosts, within easy reach but leaving us to our privacy. We couldn't have asked for more. We would love to go back again as we still miss it!
Luxury spacious farmhouse & barn in the centre of the Dordogne
Greta Location for Perigord Noir
A really nice place to stay - all of us enjoyed some of the facilities and some of us enjoyed all of the facilities! All in excellent condition. We loved the Narnia room. The swimming pool was much appreciated and the bookcase was particularly well stocked. Cendrieux itself is very pleasant and surprisingly well provided with a Post Office as well as a shop. St Alvere has 2 very good, early opening, bread shops.
We spent most of our days out visiting and/or walking. Les Eyzies and its Abris and Grottes are less than 30 minutes away, as is Cingle de Tremolat. Sarlat, Beynac, Dromme only a hour. Cicerone's walking guide to the Dordogne was especially useful but we did invent one walk of our own - from Beynac to Castelnaud to Domme via the Dordogne and thence GR36. Be warned if you want to walk locally - footpaths on the IGN 1:25000 maps may not be 'as-map', although tracks seem to be OK. 'Ligne de Coup' are definitely to be avoided unless you have local knowledge - we followed a promising path into a wood north of Cendrieux that deteriorated until a machete would have been an advantage! …
Luxury spacious farmhouse in the Dordogne. Heated covered pool and hot tub.
Fantastic stay - Alex and Alison make everything comfortable and so easy to make it all work for everyone.
Our second stay at this super gite that works really well for us, all on one level, space to all sit around in the kitchen writing postcards and chatting, good space for watching Wimbledon on TV. Great outside areas too, for breakfast in the garden, loungers by the pool, and lovely swimming in warm water.
really spoilt by having two bathrooms, and beds very comfortable.
Décor pleasant and great library - and advice any time from the owners Alex and Alison.
Overall a great holiday for us. …

Fabulous 5* Property
Red Shutters is a beautiful property located in amongst some gorgeous countryside and close to some of the most breathtaking areas of the Dordogne. The property was exactly as described and really was 5*, the rooms were spacious and well equipped with all the mod cons you could possibly need. The pool and hot tub were great and really well used during our stay. Alison and Alex provided a cheerful and comprehensive welcome together with some well needed bottles of wine after the long drive down. Unlike a lot of rented properties they had also provided a lot of the little things like dishwasher tablets, washing liquid, toilet rolls etc etc. We would highly, recommend canoeing along the Dordogne river (for an easy, relaxed way to enjoy fabulous views) and a visit to the Hanging Gardens of Marqueyssac (what amazing views of the valley). We would wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Red Shutters and will certainly be back again ourselves as there is so much more to see and enjoy in the area and no better place to do it from. Alex and Alison were wonderful hosts, there if you needed them but not intrusive. …
Gites with a Pool - Gite 2
Does what it says on the tin!
The gite is exactly as described & is spotlessly clean, comfortable & well equipped with some basics to get you up & running & plenty of cleaning supplies, wul, d/w tabs, laundry liquid, bin bags etc that so many other gites fail to provide. They'll even get a little shopping in for your arrival, (thank you Alison's mum!) & put something to cool in the drinks fridge. (Yay, no fighting for drinks v comestibles fridge-space in this gite!!) With everything provided all you really have to do is unpack your clothes, relax & enjoy.
The pool, hot tub & gardens are superb - you cannot help but relax in such delightful surroundings & on such comfortably cushioned sun loungers. We had a little rain & a couple of uncharacteristically foggy mornings but with a huge covered pool we could still enjoy being in the warm water. What's not to like - as they say!
Alison & Alex are wonderful hosts, serious when they need to be, (pool/hot tub 'rules') but relaxed with a great sense of humour. They'll gladly join you for a chinwag (& a drink, or several) but can also be discreet when you need space. They are a mine of information & will happily recommend activities, places to visit & local restaurants. 'Menu du Jour' abound in the area & we were spoilt for choice - there's a very good website dedicated to lunchtime eating, (ask Alison/Alex). Having WiFi is a real bonus especially for checking out opening/closing times, booking tickets & tables & 'Skypeing'!
Wherever one stays there will always be things that could be better but I have to say that at Le Monjat the ONLY thing I would change would be the terrace chairs - more support for the back & comfier cushions but only so we could sit for longer admiring the view, gossiping & drinking with Alison & Alex. Thank you so much for making this a truly memorable holiday. …
Gites with a Pool - Gite 1
Hassle free accomodation, in an outstanding location.
My fourth visit to this gite was as I have come to expect, a warm welcome on arrival at this well appointed gite. Owners are friendly and on hand most of the time with advice on things to do and always aim to meet any additional requests. The pool and hot tub are always clean and at a reasonable temperature and set in the private garden with superb views are perfect to relax in. Cendrieux is well placed for access to tourist destinations in the Dordogne and Vezere valleys as well as the larger towns and cities of Bergerac, Perigeux and Bordeaux. Cendrieux itself is a small village and has a bar/restaurant, 'relais' (mini-market) and post office.
There are many good restaurants within 30 minutes drive from Cendrieux, we would highly recommend Julien's at Paunat, Couleurs at Campagne or any restaurant in Tremolat. …
