Albania holidays

Albania may be well on its way to becoming a popular tourist destination, but it still remains a little off-the-beaten-track, meaning it’s ideal for those looking for adventure. From studios with sea views, to villas and city centre apartments, you'll find your perfect Albania holiday rental accommodation on Holiday Lettings.

About Albania

Once famous for its isolation thanks to a Communist government, Albania has undergone significant change, and holidayers are starting to recognise the unexplored beauty of this fascinating Balkan country.

From the capital city of Tirana to the Ottoman architecture of Berat and the unspoilt coastline of the Albanian Riviera, a holiday in Albania can be as relaxing or action-packed as you like. Southern Albania is where you’ll find some of the country’s most beautiful beaches, while for period architecture, art and culture, the main cities are the places to be.

There are even two major national parks, Llogara National Park and Luna National Park, with plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking and cycling.

Albanians are very friendly and welcoming to visitors, and even though English isn’t widely spoken, you’ll be greeted with a smile wherever you go.

What to do

Culture lovers should head straight for the capital city of Tirana, with its cosmopolitan vibe. The compact city centre is best explored on foot – don’t miss the 19th-century Clock Tower and the Et'hem Bey Mosque, one of the most beautiful in the country. Further afield, you can take the cable car to the summit of Mountain Dajti for beautiful views over the surrounding area.

No visit to Albania is complete without a trip to Behat, ‘the town of a thousand windows’. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to an ancient inner fortress in the Kalaja Neighbourhood, where you’ll also find the Onufri Museum. Its cliffside location makes it a spectacular holiday photo spot.

Albanian cuisine is simply amazing – savoury pastries like Byrek, with spinach and cheese or minced meat fillings, are sold around every corner, while Baklava, a honey and nut pastry, is a delicious after-dinner treat!

Top Albania travel tips

Visit Albania during the summer months, when the temperature in the cities averages around 75 degrees fahrenheit. It’s usually warm and dry wherever you go in the country during June and July.

Driving here is best left to the locals – road conditions can be treacherous, with many roads in poor condition. It’s best to stick to public transport, which is generally reliable.

Watch out when sampling Raki, the national spirit. Smaller bars and restaurants may serve ‘home brew’ in unlabelled bottles, which can be stronger than what you’re used to!

A little off-the-beaten-track and a little more adventurous than your average holiday destination, Albania is a great choice for your family trip or romantic getaway. Why not browse Holiday Lettings’s range of Albania holiday rentals today?

Magic Ionian Apartments and Rooms (Studio Apartment with Balcony and Sea View)
Amazing location and experience in the Southern Albanian Riviera

My family and I along with a couple of other families have been spending a week every year for the last 8 years in the beautiful southern coast of Albania. Last year we found Magic Ionian and the experience was so wonderful that we decided to book another week for this year by the time we left. The villa is beautiful and perfectly situated. It has everything you need for a great vacation. You are sitting right on front of the Ionian Sea with incredible views of the sunsets in Himara. It is very private which is something we truly loved. We travel with young children and this place was just perfect for them. But, we saw many couples without children who also frequented the villa. The units are well maintained and equipped with kitchen and all the utensils needed for cooking in the room. Less than 5 minutes walking distance there are several hotels and restaurants in Potami Beach where one can have breakfast, lunch and dinner. We did that last year and loved it. It's great to have several choices. Then, just five minutes away via car, there are even more choices in the center of Himara. We spent every single day (morning and afternoon) sitting in the private beach right in front of the villa and loved doing that. This place is managed by a father and son. They have a great attitude and are always looking for ways to make the stay for their guests as pleasant as possible. The son, Petro, is one of the nicest young men I know with superb customer service skills and attitude. My communication with him has been pleasant and very professional since in the beginning. I highly recommend this place whether you are looking to spend time with family, friends or just as a couple. You will not be disappointed. We can't wait to spend another 8 days at Magic Ionian again this summer.see more
