Abruzzo holidays

Situated east of Rome on the Adriatic coast, Abruzzo is one of Italy's twenty regions and is one of the country's least-populated areas. Perfect for holidayers seeking a traditional Italian experience, Abruzzo offers miles and miles of placid countryside, outstanding authentic cuisine and scenic seacoast beaches. A bridge between northern and southern Italy, Abruzzo is widely considered one of the most beautiful parts of the country and makes for a unique travel experience.

Some of the varied attractions and activities you can enjoy in Abruzzo include:

  • Beaches: Abruzzo has 129 kilometres of coastline, and much of it has been converted to resorts. Kick back and relax on the Adriatic shores in one of Europe's best-kept secrets.
  • Ski resorts: This region is also popular in winter, as the hilly terrain of its interior offers outstanding opportunities to ski Abruzzo. The region is home to some of the most celebrated ski resorts in continental Europe.
  • L'Aquila: The regional capital, L'Aquila, has a history dating back to the mid-13th century and is a perfect place to enjoy the conveniences of urban living without the hustle, bustle and headaches of a busy city.
  • Parks: Abruzzo's parks are beautiful and plentiful, offering a quiet glimpse into the legendary serenity of the Italian countryside. Camping in Abruzzo is inexpensive, and makes for an excellent way to spend a night or two in communion with nature.
  • Food and drink: Abruzzo is home to numerous unique local delicacies, including wild boar ham, liver salami, sheep's cheese and burrata, a treasured delicacy of buttery cheese. Be sure to try ratafia, a black cherry wine that is fermented outdoors during the summer.

The region's location on the Adriatic coast and scenic beauty make it a popular destination in the summer months. However, visiting during the winter is equally rewarding as the region's snow-capped peaks offer outstanding skiing and snowboarding. holiday rentals make ideal accommodations for visitors to Abruzzo, offering visitors more comfort and privacy than hotels at often more affordable rates. Beachfront villas, urban flats and trendy apartments are amongst your many options. If you want to continue your Italian sojourn, Abruzzo is only about 50 kilometres east of Rome.

La Collina
Perfect relaxing retreat

Spent 7 nights at this well-equipped villa in a superb location offering breathtaking views over the valley. Plenty of places to visit nearby, walking routes and easy access to a lovely beaches. Much time was spent just enjoying the view and watching the locals going about their daily routines from a distance in this very secluded spot. The fruit trees and vines in the grounds were delightful and a good choice of places to sit or dine alfresco. We loved it and would thoroughly recommend it!see more
Casa San Rocco
A relaxing holiday in a charming little house.

This attractively decorated traditional house is situated within walking distance of the centre of Pratola Peligna where you can find shops, cafes and a market. There is a roof terrace accessed by an internal stair and there are stairs to the living area and bedroom which are both well equipped. Pratola Peligna is well placed for access to the National Parks and beautiful rural areas of Abruzzo.see more
Beautiful House with private pool near sea. Casalanguida
Even better than it looks!

The garden attracted me in the first place and it is stunning! Pool big and beautiful as surrounded by trees and an amazing view. House amazing. I love to cook and the kitchen is brilliantly equipped. We didnt use the living room much as were outside but were glad to have one rainy day to enjoy it, as its huge and has a great relaxing feel. This was everything we hoped for. Btw drive from Rome is 3 hours not 2, but really picturesque.see more

appartamento Mimosa
Peace and tranquility in Abruzzo

The apartment was clean and nicely furnished and our hosts very welcoming. The views of the mountains to one side and the Adriatic Sea on the other are stunning. Very quiet location surrounded by many good local restaurants a short drive away. Also a good location for visiting both the sea and the mountains. We are keen cooks and were a little disappointed at the lack of sharp knives (although a suitable one was found for us very quickly) other utensils and cooking pots. Also, as Brits, we do like our tea, and there was no kettle. (We improvised with the pasta pan).see more
