A delightful, light-filled and comfortable, furnished apartment. This is the lower level of two completely self-contained Western-style apartments, tucked away in a traditional Balinese village and surrounded by tropical gardens. The owner lives upstairs, where she has two smaller offerings available within her own home; many guests say this provides a lovely "soft-landing" because you have privacy but the help of a cluey ex-pat when you need it).
You have your own well equipped kitchen and bathroom, sunny casual living area with bi-fold doors onto your own private lawn and the tropical garden, one double bedroom plus room for a kid's mattress/ daybed if required. It's very peaceful, though not silent as we are close to a traditional village. Apart from whispering breezes through the palm trees, you'll hear the bustle and typical sounds of chickens and children's laughter, and many afternoons and evenings - if you are lucky - you will hear beautiful temple music, when the local Balinese musicians practice their traditional instruments in the nearby temple.
HOW MY PLACE WORKS:
I'm a hospitable person and a good cook. If you like privacy, you won't see me, but when I'm home you are welcome to drop in for a cuppa, and I often have a dinner or lunch with friends at the weekend. You're welcome to join us and bring a bottle of wine. (I can cook you other meals, for a fee).
When I am in Bali, you can also book my open living space upstairs for a gathering, dance or yoga session (at a fee if you are teaching classes).
NB If I'm away for more than a week, someone may be renting my own apartment, and this would not be available. Just ask and I'll tell you my plans before you book; I'm normally here)
There's a good and inexpensive laundry and a very, very cheap but delicious local warung (mini cafe) less than 200 meters/yards away, and others close by. And please keep at least one Monday night free because the men of the local village perform a spectacular Kecak (Monkey) dance at the temple next door to us, with scenes and exquisite costumes from the Hindu sacred text The Ramayana,
I have dear local friends who are professional guides, available to take you on a tour including any of these; they speak good English, they will go at your pace, and take you places you'd never find on your own. I've lived here eight years (and been visiting for 20) and am also happy to share my experiences and suggestions with you. (I'm not your "concierge or holiday planner, so if you want my professional help, with hours of planning, I'll charge a fee. But happy to chat and come up with ideas.)
Wifi connection available. Home-cooked dinner often available; ask me, when I am in Bali, or my pembantu (helper) Gusti. Meals are pre-ordered from "Jen and Gusti's 's Best Recipes Menu".
