Top Tips

The vineyard year will vary between each country and region, but here is an idea of what may be happening in the wine growing calendar:

  • Jan - Feb: Pruning. The vines are cut back and tended early in the year in order to cultivate fresh and healthy growth for the coming months.
  • Mar - May: Weather permitting, the vines should come to life with an abundance of colour and shoots. Some greenery will be cut back to encourage maximium fruit production.
  • Jun - Aug: Flowering and ripening. The vines continue to be be closely tended and gently pruned to ensure a good crop of grapes.
  • Sep - Oct: Harvest. Wine growers will aim to harvest at 'just' the right moment to ensure they bring in the best of the grapes for a specific wine, and avoid any spoiling from heavy rains.
  • Nov - Dec: Wine making. The harvest has finished but the wine making process is just beginning...
