Water sport holidays

Water sport holidays Water sport holidays Water sport holidays

Water sport holidays are the perfect idea if you’re looking for an active break and aren’t afraid of getting wet! Whether you prefer to windsurf, want to try scuba-diving or fancy a week of sailing there are a wide selection of watersport activities offered at some of the most popular holiday destinations around the world. Sunny spots offer coastal watersports so you can enjoy a morning of energetic activity and then chill out on the beach afterwards. Inland locations are often less tied to the summer season and can offer great windsurfing, canoeing and sailing throughout the year on lakes and rivers. If you’re taking children check in advance that suitable water sport equipment can be hired for them, and that there are classes and lessons available for the correct age group.

Choose a holiday home that is near to the clubs or activities centres that offer the sport you’re looking for so you can spend less time travelling and more time on the water. If you’re planning an energetic holiday timetable, pick an apartment, villa or cottage that has plenty of home comforts. You’ll really appreciate central heating, or a log fire for a cosy evening after a chilly autumn day on the river. If you’re at a beach location make sure there are enough bathrooms or showers to give everyone in your party the opportunity to wash off the sand and salt at the end of the day. Perhaps choose somewhere that has a good selection of cheap eateries nearby so you can eat out in the evenings when you’re hungry but too tired to cook!

> Water sport holidays - where to stay

Top Tips

  • Get any appropriate training, including survival and safety training in advance - water sports can be extremely hazardous.
  • Use the recommended equipment and check it every time you use it to ensure that it is sound.
  • Plan your activity. Always ensure that someone knows of your plans and what time you will be back.
  • Check the weather forecast and conditions before setting out and be prepared to be flexible accordingly.
  • Wherever possible practise watersports in an area where there are others around and where help is not far away if needed.
