Umbria is an enclave of tranquillity between the powerhouses of Lazio and Tuscany, a rural region dubbed the ‘Green Heart of Italy’, life here is laid-back and peaceful.
With their buildings made of grey-pink stone, Umbria’s towns, among them Perugia and Spoleto, have their own charm. Perugia itself is home to two universities and some excellent chocolate, and plays host to a jazz festival every July and the smaller towns of this area, Orvieto and Todi offer much quiet charm.
