Greece has a landscape that has given us thousands of postcard images but remains incredibly vibrant and impossible to capture. Walk through the olive groves, linger in the ancient sites, roam from the beaches to rocky mountains and explore breathtaking scenery. The mainland boasts intriguing ancient Greek ruins such as the Parthenon and of course the bustling capital Athens. Visitors are invited to discover delicious Greek cuisine which is made up of a variety of dishes including moussaka, souvlaki and kleftiko; and be sure not to miss out on the tatzitki and locally abundant olives which are sure to whet anyone’s appetite.
Beyond the mainland, Greece is made up of 6,000 islands and islets scattered in the Aegean and Ionian Sea which offer beaches stretching along many kilometres, sheltered bays and coves, pebbly beaches and coastal caves. Island hopping is the most popular way to explore the magic of the smaller islands, and there are plenty of ferries which will take you on a pleasant trip if you wish to experience the warm Mediterranean welcome of Crete, Corfu and Rhodes. White washed villages and vibrantly painted shutters shimmer in the summer heat, and tavernas are open late to make the best of the balmy weather from May to October.
