New film set to boost visitor numbers to the Lake District
New film set to boost visitor numbers to the Lake DistrictThose with holiday homes in the beautiful Lake District could be set for a busy period with tourism experts predicting that the area will see a significant boom in visitor numbers, thanks to the opening of new film Miss Potter.

Starring Renee Zellwegger, the movie will tell the tale of one of the country's most famous children's authors Beatrix Potter, who created the likes of Peter Rabbit and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle.

The film, which also stars Ewan McGregor, premiered in London last week and is expected to do well at the box office over Christmas.

It will feature scenery from the national park, which is expected to reignite interest in the Cumbrian destination popular for holidays among Britons. But it is predicted that as the film is released internationally, visitors from all over the world will flock to the area.

Ellis Butcher of Cumbria Tourism told the North West Vision: "Having the Lake District landscape feature on the big screen with a film of such pulling power can only be a tremendous boost for the area.

"We will be expecting visitors to come to Cumbria for the first time. It is hard to predict how many extra visitors but it will raise awareness of the Lake District across the world."
