Mid and long-haul destinations proving popular
In recent years, travel to mid and long-haul destinations have become increasingly popular with holidaymakers, according to one expert.Frances Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), said that such emerging economies have seen the "biggest growth" in terms of UK travellers.
Ms Tuke attributed the popularity of emerging economies to their "exciting" and "exotic" nature.
As these locations are "developing fast", many have invested in tourism to provide visitors with better services, she remarked.
"Similarly, tour operators over here have wanted to push the boundaries of where they travel and have found that it has been a good match that people want to go to visit different kinds of countries to have different types of holiday experiences, and those kinds of countries really offer that in spades," she added.
Research conducted by the World Travel and Tourism Council found that Africa, Asia Pacific and the Middle East have all been experiencing higher growth in tourist numbers than the world average.
America and Europe are both falling below the global growth rate for total travel and tourism demand, the council reported.
