Berlin is quickly emerging as a leading hot spot as more people discover the city's unique atmosphere and developing attractions.

Norbert Klink of estate agents Norenva, speaking to the Observer, explained: "The once-communist east is catching up with the west and Berlin has become a collection of micro-locations, rather than an integrated city."

In addition, Berlin is only an hour's flight from many UK airports and this makes it an ideal destination for a short city break or a long weekend getaway.
