£40m will boost Stansted passenger flow by 10mStansted airport is planning to deal with 10 million more passengers a year through a £40 million development programme.

A £40 million project that is currently underway will be completed next year, according to a spokesman from the airport, cementing its central role in serving popular destinations in Spain, France, Italy and many other European destinations that are experiencing growing passenger numbers.

The spokesman said: "The terminal we've got at the moment… was built in 1991. We extended one side of it, the departure side, in 1999. We put some extra check-in isles to extend the security lane.

"Now we're going for a £40 million project to extend the other side, the arrivals side. More baggage and belts space for arrivals. We're basically making the whole process much smoother."

The airport is looking to increase passenger flow by over 10 million to 35 million a year through the expansion project which is part of a white paper in 2003 to expand airports across the UK.
