Virgin Atlantic helps to get Kenya's tourism back on track
A leading airline has launched a new advertising campaign which aims to boost tourism in Kenya. Virgin Atlantic highlighted the importance of the sector for the country and revealed what they are doing to help the cause.
The airline yesterday unveiled its new campaign, which focuses on the migration of the wildebeest and will appear on London's underground mainline railway stations as well as in Britain's national press.
Speaking in Nairobi, Virgin Atlantic president Sir Richard Branson vowed to help get
Kenya back on track: "There has never been a better time to visit Kenya than right now. The post election troubles, which were predominantly focused in the non-tourist areas, have subsided. Tourism in Kenya is the number one industry for the nation and visiting now will make a huge difference to the locals who rely on the industry for their living." Sir Richard added that the country had seen a significant increase in tourism in recent years, with numbers peaking in 2007 at over two million tourists.
Sir Richard was in Kenya to help put the finishing touches to new school facilities which have been partially funded by ten of Virgin Atlantic's frequent flyers. The project at a school in the country's Masai Mara benefited from £30,000 donated by the members of the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold Card. The airline announced that it had matched the donations from its frequent flyers, bringing the total amount contributed to £60,000.
Virgin Atlantic commenced services from London Heathrow to Kenya in June 2007 and offers daily flights to the capital, Nairobi.
