Travel update for the Bank Holiday weekend - road and rail disruption expected

Some disruption is expected on Britain's roads and rail lines this Bank Holiday weekend. Travellers planning to get away over the Bank Holiday should be aware of the road closures and railway works.
Travel throughout Britain this Bank Holiday weekend could be disrupted by the following, as highlighted by The Guardian:
Roads
The Highways Agency has suspended roadworks in 49 sites across the UK from Friday to Monday, but work will continue in 38 locations.
The
M1 between Junction 32 and Junction 35 will be closed for most of Sunday. This is due to the demolition of the Tinsley cooling towers. The
busiest roads are expected to be the
M25, the
M1 northbound, the
M6 through the
West Midlands and the
M5 near
Bristol.
The
Notting Hill carnival in
London is also expected to cause traffic problems. The carnival lasts for three days and starts on Saturday. About 40,000 people are expected to make their way to the Mall on Sunday to celebrate the end of the
Beijing Olympics and the start of London's tenure as host city for the 2012 Olympics.
Rail
Rail travellers are being asked to check that their service is running as
Network Rail's Bank Holiday works programme will affect large parts of the network. Signal, track and station works are being done at
Paddington,
Rugby,
Nuneaton,
Derby and
Manchester.
