The 'spectacular regeneration' of English seaside towns
Coastal holiday resorts in England have undergone a spectacular regeneration as they look to capitalise on the growing number of tourists holidaying closer to home, one industry body has stated.According to Sian Brenchley, spokesperson for VisitBritain, traditional English destinations are once again popular with holidaymakers.
"Brighton's a kind of fashion Mecca to younger people and you've also got coastal resorts around the UK capitalising on the food revolution - like Whitstable offering oysters," she said.
Ms Brenchley added that the improvements being made to seaside towns across the country means that facilities are "really improving", something that she thinks will attract visitors in greater numbers.
The revival is also helping regenerate the overall image of Britain as a tourist destination, she concluded.
Earlier this month, the culture secretary Andy Burnham announced that a number of seaside towns - including Blackpool, Dover and Torbay - will benefit from government funding in order to assist with regeneration projects.
