British Airways (BA) will not allow passengers suffering from swine flu to change their tickets for a later date. The carrier's check- in staff are currently turning away travellers suspected of having swine flu.

BA is insisting that its normal ticketing conditions apply, reports The Daily Telegraph. Only passengers who have bought flexible tickets will be able to change their travel dates.

Virgin Atlantic is also turning away passengers with swine flu. However, the carrier will try to rebook affected travellers on flights at a later date free of charge.

Both BA and Virgin Atlantic say that should a passenger cancel their trip before travelling they will have to seek reimbursement from their travel insurers. The Air Transport Users Council has condemned BA's decision: "It is unworkable to expect travel insurance to cover it," a spokesman told the paper. "We would have hoped there would have been a facility to rebook."
