Single visa for southern Africa to facilitate travel

The bureaucracy surrounding travel in southern Africa will become a lot easier to handle in the future as a single visa system is set to come into play, writes allafrica.com.
The 14 member countries of the Southern
Africa Development Community (SADC) have signed a deal which means that travellers will only need one visa when visiting the involved states, which aside from
South Africa include Tanzania, Madagascar, Zambia and Botswana. The SADC envisages that this will simplify things for holidaymakers who want to explore several countries while on their travels.
Moses Rannditsheni, spokesperson for South Africa’s Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, explained the benefits of the new system for both travellers and the tourism industry:”The Univisa will facilitate efficient movement in the region, which will positively impact on tourism revenue for all member states. This process seeks to bring to an end delays and the inconvenience of visa applications.”
The benefits of the deal will reach much further than making life easier for holidaymakers; Rejoice Mabudafhasa, a South African Deputy Minister, claims that the boost in tourism will in turn help to eradicate poverty by creating jobs.
