Michael Jackson dead: impact on London's tourism industry

Michael Jackson's cancelled concerts at the O2 arena in London will affect scores of travellers. Jackson's comeback tour was due to start on July 13. He died from a heart attack in Los Angeles yesteday.
18 concerts were scheduled and The LA Times points out that many of Jackson's fans had planned
London city breaks around the dates. Jackson's fans were due to descend on London until March 2010, when his 'This Is It' shows at the O2 arena were due to end.
AEG Live, the company that organised the series of shows, was also planning a three year tour for Jackson in Europe. After London, the concerts were due to travel to Asia before ending in the
US. However, it was believed Jackson had only committed to the London shows so far.
Fans who had purchased tickets to see Jackson at the O2 arena through AEG will receive a full refund. According to The Times, one million customers are set to get their money back. Ticketmaster also sold tickets for the comeback concerts and have a similar policy.
Tickets were selling for up to £1,000 on the secondary market due to demand. One company, Seatwave, traded in approximately 10,000 tickets for resale in partnership with the O2 arena.
