Helicopter and plane crash in New York
Rescuers are continuing their search for bodies following an air crash New York. Nine people are believed dead after a helicopter and small plane collided over the Hudson River on Saturday.

Seven bodies have been recovered so far, according to the BBC. Six people - five Italian tourists and the pilot - were on the helicopter when it crashed. The plane was carrying three people, including one child.

The wreckage of the helicopter has been located in the Hudson, but the plane has not yet been found. The incident happened between Hoboken in New Jersey and Manhattan.

Michael Bloomberg, New York's mayor, said that the rescue mission had now become a recovery operation. He believes that the plane crashed into the rear of the helicopter, but a full investigation needs to be carried out.

One eyewitness told the Associated Press news agency: "We heard first a huge crash, a boom almost. We turned around and saw these two mushroom splashes." Others described seeing debris fall into the river, including the plane's wing and the helicopter's propellers.
