European holidays 'still cheap for the time being'
European holidays 'still cheap for the time being'European holidays are still "relatively cheap", but prices could rise from next year, it has been claimed.

Kayte Williams, holidays manager at Travelsupermarket.com, explained that while the rising cost of the euro has not yet had a big impact on the cost of travelling abroad, it could start to filter through in 2009, something that might mean people look further afield.

She said: "Next year's market is currently being priced so there is potential that the cost of European holidays will go up for next season.

"They are costed well in advance, so for this year the cost of European destinations is still relatively cheap or cheaper than long-haul."

She also suggested that people who are planning a trip to the USA in the next year or so might want to buy dollars now.

By doing this, people will be able to take advantage of the good exchange rate currently on offer, she concluded.

Earlier this month, the Post Office revealed that South Africa and Egypt are currently the cheapest destinations for UK holidaymakers.

Bulgaria is the least expensive European location, it added.
