Eastern Europe 'offers cheaper city breaks'
Cash-strapped holidaymakers might want to look to eastern Europe for a bargain getaway, one expert has suggested.Tim Campbell, managing director of Fregata Travel explained that the region offers travellers better value for money than more traditional destinations.
He said: "Although it is getting more expensive at quite a rapid rate nowadays, it's still a lot cheaper than most traditional destinations, such as Paris, Barcelona, Venice [and] Rome."
This applies to the cost of eating out and entrance fees for tourist attractions, he added.
Mr Campbell also stated that destinations in eastern Europe are still something of a "novelty" for tourists and this makes them attractive to those looking for new experiences.
Mr Campbell's comments follow Post Office predictions that the economic downturn might lead to short-breaks becoming more popular with holidaymakers.
Last month it said that shorter holidays could become more common as people look to save cash by avoiding fortnight-long getaways.
