Britons prepare for the great May getaway
As May and its bank holidays approach, a significant number of Britons are preparing for a getaway, a new survey shows.Research conducted by TripAdvisor found that 46 per cent of people are planning to make use of the May breaks and take a vacation.
It revealed that 24 per cent of respondents are set for a long weekend, 18 per cent will be going away for a week or longer and ten per cent are limiting themselves to a day trip.
Those who are opting to take their holiday at home are most likely to head for the north of
England, with
Wales being the next most popular domestic destination.
Meanwhile,
France and
Spain are the top two locations for those going abroad, the survey added.
Of those going on holiday, 15 per cent said they would be taking a city break.
Last month, Helen Warburton, head of travel at the Post Office, stated that city breaks will become increasingly popular with people as they look to tighten their belts.
She believes that people will start to opt for a number of short breaks each year, rather than taking a long holiday.
