See London from a Zeppelin - flights set to start next month
Visitors to London will be able to take a novel tour of the city from next month. The Times reports that Zeppelin airships are set to take to the skies, complete with passengers.
From July 10th holidaymakers will be able to take their seat onboard a Zeppelin and enjoy sightseeing flights over
London's most famous landmarks. Following two years of planning, it has been announced that five flights, each lasting between 30 minutes and an hour, will take off from east London each day, taking in Buckingham Palace, St Paul's Cathedral and the Houses of Parliament.
Each tour will accommodate up to 12 passengers, all of whom will have the benefit of a window seat. The flights will be sold under the brand Star Over London and tickets will cost from £185 to £360, depending upon the length of the tour. The last trip will take place on August 21st, just six weeks after the inaugural flight. The short season has been put down to safety restrictions, which mean that the airship cannot fly during heavy winds, thunderstorms or fog.
However, the Civil Aviation Authority says that it has not yet received an application for approval of the scheme. The airship operator claims that it has obtained all permissions and certifications required through its
German parent company.
