Ryanair toilet charge confirmed as O'Leary suggests fee for sick bags
Ryanair has revived its plans to charge passengers to use the toilet. The airline's outspoken chief executive, Michael O'Leary, also hinted at charging for sick bags in a recent television interview.
The Ryanair toilet charge could become a reality within two years, according to The Guardian. O'Leary also said that by removing two of the three toilets on board its planes, Boeing 737s, Ryanair would also generate extra revenue by replacing them with seats.
"We are serious about it," said O'Leary of Ryanair's widely reported toilet charge. He added that he will ask Boeing to look at putting
credit card readers on toilet locks in new planes.
Expanding on the decision to remove some of each aircraft's toilets, O'Leary said: "We are flying aircraft on an average flight time of one hour around Europe. What the hell do we need three toilets for? If you get rid of two, you can get six seats on a 737."
Meanwhile, when interviewed on Sky television last night, O'Leary told host Jeff Randall that Ryanair would
charge for sick bags. The Daily Telegraph remains unsure if O'Leary was joking.
