Disney set to expand Californian theme park
A Disney theme park in the US is set for a major expansion, Walt Disney Co. has revealed.The main part of the California Adventure re-vamp which will take five years - takes the form of a new 12-acre "land" based on the popular Disney/Pixar film, Cars.
Cars Land, as it will be known, will feature a major Cars-themed ride as well as two more family-friendly rides.
In addition to this, the Anaheim based-park - which opened in 2001 will see new rides based on movies such as Toy Story and the Little Mermaid, as well as an attraction based on Walt Disney himself.
Commenting on the development, Disneyland president Ed Grier told USA Today: "This expansion builds on a commitment we made more than a decade ago to create and grow the Anaheim resort area as a world-class tourist destination."
In addition to the new rides, California Adventure will feature several new restaurants, a high-tech light show and a viewing plaza which can accommodate 9,000 people.
