Brits taking more overseas trips
British people are increasingly looking abroad for their annual holidays and breaks, claims new research.A study conducted by Mintel and seen by website Travelmole suggests that spending on foreign holidays has increased by 28 percent since 2002. In particular, demand for long-haul flights is growing as people are keen to try new destinations.
The baby boomer generation are the most likely to consider long and short overseas holidays.
"Their main spending priorities include major foreign holidays and short breaks," a Mintel spokesman said.
In total, spending has risen to £23.8 billion, with the long-haul sector increasing to around £8 billion between 2002 and 2006. The report also concluded that 23 percent of respondents are planning to take a major holiday overseas over the coming 12 months with 22 per cent planning a shorter trip.
Lower airline fares as well as a greater choice of holiday lettings are both reasons behind the growing desire for Brits to travel overseas.
