Amy Winehouse has been denied a visa for travel to the US. The singer, who recently returned from an extended holiday in St Lucia, was due to play at a festival in America, but has been told that her entry would be blocked as she has been charged with assaulting a fan.

Winehouse was expected to travel to California to play at the Coachella festival. The singer had been lined up to play alongside acts including The Killers and Paul McCartney at the festival in April, according to The Daily Mirror.

However, Winehouse's spokesman said that she would be unable to travel to the US: "She is not appearing at Coachella this year in light of current legal issues." A source told the paper that the singer was "gutted" but "because of the court case she can't get a visa".

Winehouse is due to appear before Westminster magistrates next week over an alleged assault on a dancer at London's Berkeley Ball last September. Whilst the charge is still being made against her, she will not be able to obtain a visa.

It is not the first time that Winehouse has had problems travelling to the US. She was meant to attend last year's Grammy Awards but her papers did not arrive in time, forcing her to perform via satellite from London instead. It is said that the singer had problems convincing officials that she was no longer taking drugs.

The 25 year old recently returned from a holiday in St Lucia, where she was reported to be attempting to beat her drug addictions.
