'Celebrity factor and beautiful surroundings' make Italian lakes popular
Classic villas and an exclusive "celebrity factor" conspire to make the Italian lakes a sought after spot to own property, it has been claimed.Property editor Paul Collins said that most properties in this region are like "the classic Italian villas."
He went on: "One of the big draws of the Italian Lakes is the celebrity factor. Lots of celebrities like to go on holiday there and George Clooney has a place out there."
The extravagant beauty of the Italian Lakes: Como, Garda and Maggiore has attracted famous visitors since the times of the Roman Empire, inspiring poets, writers, and musicians with idyllic landscapes of lakes ringed by snow capped mountains.
Mr Collins added: "You won't find huge developments with hundreds of apartments which is part of the charm of the place.
"People tend to buy an existing property and renovate that, or it might already be renovated. They can then rent it out if they want to, or use it for part of the year, or just as a holiday home."
