Zoom, the low-cost transatlantic airline, has suspended all operations. Zoom ceased operations after reportedly failing to pay its bills, blaming high fuel costs.

Zoom, which operated flights between Europe and Canada, was grounded yesterday after failing to pay their bills, reports The Times. Zoom's website advises customers who have already booked and paid for a Zoom flight to contact their credit or debit card company to apply for a refund.

"We deeply regret the fact that we have been forced to suspend all Zoom operations. It is a tragic day for our passengers and more than 600 staff. We are desperately sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment that this will cause passengers and those who have booked flights," Hugh and John Boyle, the founders of Zoom, said.

The website lists services by other airlines that offer alternatives to Zoom's cancelled flights. These include flights with Air Canada, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Canadian Affair, Fly Globespan, Air France and Alitalia. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are reported to have said they will offer special fares to customers whose travel plans have been affected as a result of Zoom's suspension of flights.

"We have done everything we can to support the airline and left no stone unturned to secure a re-financing package that would have kept our aircraft flying," the statement continued. The Boyles blamed the suspension of Zoom's operations on "exceptionally difficult trading conditions" over the past year, saying that the increase in the price of fuel had added around $50m to Zoom's annual operating costs.
