Trains are "more relaxing" than planes
Trains are "more relaxing" than planesHolidaymakers planning to take a trip to the continent ought to consider taking the train, according to one expert.

Cat Hobbs, public transport campaigner at Campaign for Better Transport, said that trains are often "more punctual" than planes and can be a more "pleasant" travelling experience.

"It's more relaxing and less stressful and you don't have lots of waiting around," she claimed.

The Eurostar may also be a popular alternative to planes for those concerned about the impact the aviation industry has on the environment.

"Transport is the fastest growing source of carbon emissions and aviation is the biggest problem within transport, so short-haul flights and flying in general is really a problem in climate change terms," Ms Hobbs added.

Passengers using Eurostar's services increased by 21.3 per cent between January and March this year, compared with the corresponding period in 2007.

According to the rail firm, some 2.17 million passengers used its services during these three months.
