Strike at Budapest Airport causes flight delays and cancellations
A strike by union members has led to disruption at Budapest Airport. Many flights have already been affected and more cancellations and delays are expected.

Two unions at Budapest Airport are currently involved in the industrial action. Workers at the airport began an indefinite strike last Wednesday and talks to resolve the dispute broke down yesterday, reports news agency Reuters.

Hungarian airline Malev cancelled ten flights yesterday and has said it will ground a further 12 flights today. Low cost carriers easyJet and Wizz Air both cancelled several flights from Budapest Airport yesterday and, while the airport has said it expects a better service today, further delays and cancellations are still possible.

Budapest Airport has agreed to resume talks with the two unions today over improved labour conditions, a halt to layoffs and a new collective agreement. Until a resolution has been reached, passengers are advised to arrive at the airport three hours early.

However, there has been speculation of other unions carrying out a solidarity strike later this week. It is thought this could bring the airport to a standstill.
