Spain and Portugal announce new airport plans
Spain and
Portugal are to build new airports aimed at supporting the countries' tourism industries, it has been reported.
The International Herald Tribune claims that the two airports - one of which is to be built in the Huelva province in Spain and the other just outside the Portuguese capital of Lisbon - are located in areas that are "increasingly popular" with tourists.
According to the newspaper, the new Portugal base should further boost well-liked destinations on the Silver Coast and the Algarve, while the Spanish development should improve access to the western Costa de la Luz.
Both airports are expected to be finished by 2012, although the publication warns that this date is likely to change.
The announcement may prove to be good news for investors with property in either of the areas.
A recent study conducted by Savills suggested that holiday homes close to destinations served by low-cost airlines are, on average, 37 per cent more expensive than those which are not.
