Ryanair introduces new APIS requirements
Ryanair passengers flying from the UK and Ireland to Spain will soon need to provide more personal data earlier on in the booking process. The low-cost airline advises holidaymakers on its website of the new rules regarding "advance passenger information" (known as API or APIS), which will come into force next month.
In accordance with
Spanish regulations, since June 2007 holidaymakers travelling to Spanish territory, including the
Canary and
Balearic Islands, have been required to provide APIS before departing from UK and
Irish airports. However, from June 1st of this year, Ryanair will be tightening up their own regulations and presentation of APIS at the time of departure will no longer be accepted; from this point in time onwards passengers must provide this data at the time of booking their flight, or no more than four hours before they are due to depart.
Lorna Farren of Ryanair commented on the change: "Ryanair regrets any inconvenience these Spanish government APIS requirements may cause, however it is the responsibility of every passenger travelling from the UK or Ireland to Spain to submit passport or national ID data at the time of original booking or at least four hours prior to their flights on Ryanair.com. We strongly advise all passengers travelling to Spain to submit their APIS data and thereby avoid any risk of being denied check-in."
The budget airline further warned their passengers that if they failed to comply with the new guidelines they would be denied the possibility to check-in and would consequently forfeit their flight, with no opportunity of a refund. Spanish APIS regulations require passengers to provide a range of data, including; their full name as it appears on their passport; date of birth; nationality; passport or travel document number; type of document; and the issuing state.
