Rail 'a viable alternative to flying'
Rail 'a viable alternative to flying'An increasing number of tourists see taking the train as a viable alternative to flying when going away on holiday, it has been claimed.

Philippa Richardson, communications manager for Virgin Trains, explained that while rail travel has obvious limitations, it is now a popular choice with many holidaymakers going to mainland Europe.

"More and more people are choosing it as a means to get to destinations they might have previously gone to by car or plane," she said.

The Eurostar and rail networks across Europe are "well-used" and have helped make the mode of transport more popular with tourists, Ms Richardson added.

"People will certainly look at the option of going by rail in a more favourable light," she concluded.

Last month, Cherise Williams, a spokesperson for French property company VEF, claimed that the Eurostar is helping to make Paris even more popular with investors.
