New flights for easyJet, Ryanair and British Airways
New flights for easyJet, Ryanair and British Airways
Holidaymakers looking to jet to off to sunnier climes should have no problem getting to their chosen destinations,
as many airlines have this week continued to expand the number of routes they serve. As was widely reported
this week, British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair, to name but a few, have all announced they are to launch new
services in the coming months.
The low-cost favourite easyJet launched a grand total of five new routes, according to airline news and analysis
site anna.aero. Lucky Scots will now have more choice when considering their holidays; the much anticipated
Edinburgh to
Nice route was announced, as well as a direct
link between Glasgow and Faro (
Portugal ).
The budget carrier also added significantly to its flights from Bristol, announcing a seasonal service to
Biarritz as well as adding Olbia in
Sardinia and
Croatia's Split to its network. The new services
are expected to prove popular, as easier.com reports. Between the three new Bristol based routes, the airline hopes
to carry 47,000 passengers over the next 12 months.
David Osborne, easyJet UK manager, explained what the expansion meant to the airline: "EasyJet has seen a huge
increase in flights to summer sun destinations in 2007-2008 from Bristol International Airport, with the arrival of
Ibiza , Bordeaux, Milan, Lisbon, Warsaw and
Funchal last year. The new routes...reinforce our position as the UK's largest airline."
It is not just the regional airports that are seeing expanded services, as British Airways (BA) got in on the game
and announced a new route from
London City
Airport, in the capital's Docklands area, to Dublin. Cheapflights.co.uk reported that BA had announced that as from
June 1st, they would be providing three flights per day between the two capitals on its subsidiary airline BA
CityFlyer. The airport will also see other new services, as BA announced that they will add a second daily service
to Nice from September and will expand its services to Edinburgh from the Docklands. Of the new Dublin route, Peter
Simpson, managing director of CityFlyer, said that the airline was "delighted to be able to offer a three-a-day
service in direct response to passenger demand."
From June of this year, budget airline Ryanair will fly from their London Stansted base to Rimini and Beziers.
Holidaymakers wanting to make the most of their travels will also have more choice at their fingertips when it comes
to flying out to new destinations from Europe; many low cost airlines, including Wizz Air, Clickair and
Centralwings, have announced new flights from non-UK airports.
Bargain hunters will be pleased to know that cheap flight deals don't always come at the price of poorly designed
booking systems. Consumer report and advice magazine Which? Holiday discovered that one in five holidaymakers
surveyed said that easyJet had the best online booking service. Stelios's orange airline was followed by BA, with 18
per cent of respondents finding their website easy and quick to use, travelbite.co.uk reveals.
