Merger will create the world's biggest airline

Delta and Northwest airlines are seeking to drum up support for a merger which would create the world's biggest carrier.
Officials from the airlines are set to try and convince shareholders and regulators that such a move would be good for both companies and the industry as a whole, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Both these groups will need to approve the proposed merger.
Speaking to reporters at Hatfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Delta Airlines' chief executive Richard Anderson revealed that he has little doubt that the merger is a good idea.
According to the newspaper he said: "It's an important day for Atlanta. It's an important day for Delta. It's an important day for aviation in the United States."
However, Wall Street seems less keen on the move, with share prices in the company falling by nearly 13 per cent.
According to a joint press release issued by the two companies, no airports will close because of the merger and the new airline will be able to better compete in the "Open Skies environment".
